Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition, which causes a buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs.

Symptoms

Cystic fibrosis symptoms often commence in early childhood and include:

  • Persistent cough
  • Repeated chest/lung infections
  • Poor weight gain/growth

Treatments

There is no cure for cystic fibrosis. The goal of treatment is to ease symptoms by:

  • Preventing and controlling lung infections
  • Loosening and removing the mucus from the lungs
  • Preventing and treating intestinal blockage
  • Providing adequate nutrition
  • Preventing dehydration
