Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic condition that causes joint inflammation in the hands, knees, hips and feet.

Symptoms

Primarily, the joints will be affected. Symptoms often start in the hands and feet and include:

  • Throbbing and aching pain
  • Stiffness (i.e. you may not be able to fully extend your fingers)
  • Swelling, warmth, tenderness and redness of joints

Other symptoms may include:

  • Fever
  • Lack of energy and tiredness
  • Lack of appetite
  • Weight loss

Treatments

Many drugs can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and while there is no cure, medications help to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and prevent or slow joint damage.
