Entyvio is a humanized monoclonal antibody used in inflammatory bowel diseases. It helps reduce gastrointestinal inflammation caused by ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
Ulcerative colitis affects the lining of the large intestine and may cause ulcers. There is no cure. However, medications such as Entyvio can help reduce the inflammation caused by increased white blood cells.
Crohn’s disease also causes swelling of the digestive tract. Entyvio prevents an overabundance of white blood cells from entering the gastrointestinal tract. This leads to a decrease in the inflammation that is caused by these disease states.

Entyvio comes in a 300 mg single-dose vial. The recommended dose discussed below pertains to both ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
It is recommended that 300 mg be infused intravenously over 30 minutes at zero, two, and six weeks. It should be administered every 8 weeks thereafter. By week 14, if the patient does not see a therapeutic benefit, Entyvio should be discontinued.
Entyvio should be infused by a healthcare professional and monitored for anaphylaxis. Entyvio is diluted in 0.9% sodium chloride or lactated Ringers. After dilution, Entyvio is stable for 12 hours at room temperature and 24 hours when refrigerated.
This medication is usually ordered by the doctor and sent to the doctor’s office to be administered. Hypersensitivity or infusion reactions may occur during administration, so a healthcare professional must administer this medication.
