What Is Mavyret?

Mavyret is used for the treatment of a chronic hepatitis C infection. Treatment will vary from 8 to 16 weeks depending on your previous treatment history.

Prior to initiating treatment with Mavyret, your doctor may first treat any underlying conditions such as hepatitis B or HIV infection. These other viral infections may worsen with the use of Mavyret if they are not treated first. Imaging and labs are ordered to determine the type of hepatitis C virus you have, the presence of a Hepatitis B and HIV infection, and the functionality of your liver. You can expect to have blood drawn for labs during and after your treatment to confirm that you have been cured of the virus.

Mavyret (100 mg glecaprevir and 40 mg pibrentasvir) is an oral combination medication administered as 3 tablets taken at the same time by mouth once daily with food. To ensure the success rate of treatment, do not stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor first. You may not be cured of a hepatitis C infection if doses are missed or not taken as directed. An unsuccessful treatment may result in retreatment with other hepatitis C medications with more unfavorable side effects.

Mayvret interacts with cardiac, immunosuppressant, estrogen, and cholesterol medications. It is important to communicate to your doctor your medication list prior to starting treatment.

Patients who have previously been treated for hepatitis C and were not cured may be eligible to receive Mayvret for treatment. The side effects of the medication are much more tolerable than the interferon injectable treatments previously available.
