Plasma is an important component of the blood as it serves as its liquid base.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plasma is comprised of water, blood clotting factors (mainly fibrinogen), plasma proteins (such as albumin and globulin, which is essential in maintaining the volume pressure in the body), electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, and calcium, all of which are necessary for maintaining blood pH), and immunoglobulins (these help fight infection and contain other enzymes, hormones, and vitamins). [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK531504\/\">13<\/a>]&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This medicine belongs to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">immune globulins<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> drug class. repeated use<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the body adjusts to the drug.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Blood_Clot_Risk_Factors\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood Clot Risk Factors<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuvitru<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/100531\/download\"><b>Black Box Warning<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> due to the possibility of <\/span><b>causing blood clots<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patients are at increased risk of having blood clots if they have one or more of the following risk factors:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Estrogen use<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advanced age&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sedentary lifestyle&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hypercoagulable conditions&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">History of previous blood clots<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There may be other factors, and patients are encouraged to discuss them with their doctor.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help prevent or reduce the risk of blood clots, the manufacturer recommends infusing at the minimum dose and lowest infusion rate possible. Monitor signs and symptoms during and after the treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cuvitru_Dosing\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuvitru Dosing<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Cuvitru is available as:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 5 ml, 10 ml, 20 ml, 40 ml, and 50 ml single-dose, ready-to-use vials containing 0.2 grams\/ml.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuvitru is administered only as a subcutaneous (under the skin) injection using an infusion pump. The sites of administration are the stomach, thigh, upper arm, or side of the hip. Use a different administration site with every dose. Additionally, up to 4 infusion sites can be used at the same time, but make sure each infusion site is at least 4 inches apart from each other.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Factors That Influence Dosing Calculations:<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Body weight<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical history<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood IgG levels<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current conditions<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clinical response to the treatment<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on these factors, the patient (a child or adult) may be prescribed a<\/span><b> loading dose of at least 1.0 \u2013 2.5 ml\/kg of body weight<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> divided over a few consecutive days.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following this loading dose, patients will start to receive <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuvitru infusions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at regular intervals,<\/span><b> from daily to once every two weeks.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The total monthly dose ranges<\/span><b> between 1.5 \u2013 5.0 ml\/kg of body weight <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after the loading dose.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The doctor may adjust the dose over time to achieve the desired clinical response and serum IgG levels.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For patients switching from another IVIG brand, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuvitru<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dose will be based on the previous IVIG dose and adjusted according to the number and frequency of infusions (more on this below).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not recommended to make changes to the dose or dosing interval without talking to the doctor.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You must speak to the doctor as early as possible if you miss a dose and get a new dosing schedule. Avoid doubling the dosage to catch up.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primary Immunodeficiency (PI)<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A patient must receive immunoglobulin (Ig) therapy before receiving Cuvitru for PI.
