Tretten belongs to a drug class known as coagulation factors or hemostatics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tretten is produced using recombinant DNA technology and is not derived from human plasma.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A healthcare provider may prescribe this medication to prevent bleeding in children and adults with congenital factor XIII (FXIII) A-subunit deficiency.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congenital factor XIII (FXIII) A-subunit deficiency is a rare inherited bleeding disorder. It is estimated to affect 1 in every 1 to 3 million people. In people with this disorder, the blood doesn\u2019t clot properly, leading to a higher risk of [<a href=\"https:\/\/ashpublications.org\/blood\/article\/116\/21\/20\/111654\/Recombinant-Factor-XIII-Safe-and-Novel-Treatment\">1<\/a>]:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Life-threatening bleeds (most notably, spontaneous bleeding within the brain)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delayed wound healing&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recurrent spontaneous abortion in women&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, Tretten is the first and only recombinant therapy for people with congenital factor XIII (FXIII) A-subunit deficiency. All other approved treatments are derived from plasma.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This medication shouldn\u2019t be used to treat another similar bleeding disorder called congenital factor XIII B\u2011subunit deficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Note: Tretten is sold under the brand name NovoThirteen in the EU, Switzerland, and Australia<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-tretten-mechanism-of-action\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tretten_Mechanism_of_Action\"><\/span>Tretten Mechanism of Action<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Factor XIII A-subunit plays a crucial role in blood clotting. When bleeding occurs, the body forms a mesh of fibrin proteins to create a blood clot. Activated factor XIII helps strengthen and stabilize the clot by linking fibrin strands together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you have factor XIII A-subunit deficiency, blood clots become unstable and fragile. As a result, blood clots may break down too easily, increasing the risk of potentially life-threatening bleeding [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nbt0314-210a\">2<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tretten is a lab-created protein that works the same way as the naturally occurring factor XIII-A subunit in the body. The sterile water comes in a separate vial.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you need a smaller dose, you may dilute the medicine with 0.9% sodium chloride.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administer Tretten as a slow intravenous injection at a rate not exceeding 1\u20132 ml per minute, following your healthcare provider&#8217;s instructions.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not mix Tretten with other infusion
