Antihemophilic factor is a natural protein in the blood that\u2019s needed to help form clots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients with hemophilia usually have little to no production or function of FVIII. It contains an active ingredient that has a similar activity to that of the natural FVIII coagulation factor and helps the blood clot more efficiently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, Kogenate temporarily replaces the missing natural factor VIII, thus giving temporary control of bleeding in hemophilia A patients.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-kogenate-fs-dosage-forms-and-strengths\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kogenate_FS_Dosage_Forms_and_Strengths\"><\/span>Kogenate FS: Dosage Forms and Strengths<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The drug comes as a lyophilized powder in a single-dose vial. Each vial is labeled with the recombinant antihemophilic factor activity expressed in IU (international units) per vial. However, your healthcare provider will determine the best administration rate for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-dosage-for-routine-prophylaxis\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Dosage_for_Routine_Prophylaxis\"><\/span>1. <strong>Dosage for Routine Prophylaxis<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The recommended dosing range of Kogenate FS for adult patients is 25 IU\/kg three times a week. For children under 12, the recommended dose is 25 IU\/kg, every other day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-dosage-for-control-and-prevention-of-bleeding-episodes\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Dosage_for_Control_and_Prevention_of_Bleeding_Episodes\"><\/span>2. <strong>Dosage for Control and Prevention of Bleeding Episodes<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The dose of Kogenate depends on how severe the bleeding is and where it\u2019s happening:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For <strong>minor bleeds<\/strong> (such as minor muscle or oral bleeds): a dose of 10 to 20 IU\/kg until the bleeding stops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong>moderate bleeds<\/strong> (e.g., muscle and <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/hemophilia\/hemophilia-and-joint-health-how-to-prevent-and-treat-joint-damage\/\">joint bleeds<\/a>): a dose of 15 to 30 IU\/kg every 12 \u2013 24 hours until the bleeding stops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong>severe bleeds<\/strong> (e.g., fractures, head trauma, or stomach bleeding): an initial dose of 40 to 50 IU\/kg, followed by a repeated dose of 20 to 25 IU\/kg, given every 8 \u2013 12 hours until the bleeding is resolved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-dosage-to-control-bleeding-during-or-after-surgery\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Dosage_to_Control_Bleeding_During_or_After_Surgery\"><\/span>3. <strong>Dosage to Control Bleeding During or After Surgery<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kogenate maintains the factor VIII activity levels at or above the target range to <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/hemophilia\/how-to-stop-bleeding-in-hemophilia-patients\/\">control bleeding<\/a> during or after surgery.
