Additionally, some experts recommend switching from IVIG to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/what-is-scig\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SCIG<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (subcutaneous immunoglobulin).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Immunosuppressive agents work by preventing the immune system from attacking the protective covering around nerve cells. Examples of immunosuppressives include azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, methotrexate, cyclosporine, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/discontinued\/cyclophosphamide\/\">cyclophosphamide<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/cancer\/rituximab-rituxan\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rituximab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a monoclonal antibody, improves CIDP symptoms in treatment-resistant cases according to a 2022 review [<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/34120208\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">].<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"IVIG_Alternatives_in_Guillain_Barre_Syndrome_GBS\"><\/span>IVIG Alternatives in Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IVIG is the primary treatment for GBS. Yet, about 25% of people who don\u2019t respond to it need mechanical ventilation, and 20% of people cannot walk without support after 6 months [<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2883091\/#\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">].<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When IVIG doesn\u2019t work, your provider may switch you to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/guillain-barre-syndrome\/plasmapheresis-for-guillain-barre-syndrome-benefits-risks-and-dose\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plasmapheresis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (plasma exchange) [<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK594395\/#\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">].
