However, some cancer cells develop genetic changes and produce a protein called PD-L1 (Programmed Death-Ligand 1).<\/p>\n<p>This protein (PD-L1) is also present on the surface of healthy cells, which usually acts as a safety signal to prevent the immune system from attacking them. Cancer cells, on the other hand, also start to produce a lot of PD-L1, which allows them to hide from the immune system and keep multiplying.<\/p>\n<p>Durvalumab, the active ingredient in Imfinzi, is a PD-L1-blocking antibody and belongs to the class of immune checkpoint inhibitors.
