It is also used to treat autoimmune conditions such as lupus erythematosus.<\/p>\n<p>It is indicated for prophylaxis of organ rejection in adult patients receiving kidney transplants and in pediatric patients 5 years of age and older who are at least 6 months post-kidney transplant.\u00a0Mycophenolic acid should be used in combination with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK482450\/#:~:text=Cyclosporine%20is%20an%20immunosuppressive%20agent,not%20adequately%20responded%20to%20methotrexate.\">cyclosporine<\/a>\u00a0and corticosteroids.<\/p>\n<p>Mycophenolic acid can be given by mouth or by injection into a vein.\u00a0It is available as mycophenolate sodium (<a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/other-health-conditions\/myfortic-mycophenolic-acid\/\">Myfortic<\/a>) and mycophenolate mofetil (CellCept).<\/p>\n<h3>Formulations<\/h3>\n<p>Mycophenolate mofetil and enteric-coated (delayed-release) mycophenolate sodium are not equivalent. Conversion to equimolar doses is necessary. Mycophenolate mofetil 500 mg is considered equivalent to mycophenolate sodium 360 mg. IV and oral doses of mycophenolate mofetil are equivalent.
