CIDP Treatment

What type of medical care does a person with CIDP need?

CIDP treatment can include:

Intravenous immune globulin (IVIG)

This is the main therapy for CIDP patients and it has been used over the past 2 decades. Patient improvements can be seen in as little as 2 weeks. IVIG allows for the infusion of antibodies into the blood which will help stop the immune system from attacking myelin sheaths.

Corticosteroids

Corticosteroids such as prednisone are used to help suppress the body’s immune response.

Plasmapheresis or Plasma exchange

This process involves the collection of patients’ own blood and removing the harmful antibodies. Antibodies are proteins produced by the body during an autoimmune response.
