The typical maximum use interval for PN filters is 24 hours for TNAs and dextrose\/amino acid formulations; 12 hours for IVFE infused separately) per ASPEN consensus recommendations. These recommendations&nbsp;are for the general&nbsp;population, and should never replace the pharmacist&#8217;s professional judgment&nbsp;of special circumstances for the patient.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Closer_Look_at_the_Guidelines\"><\/span>A Closer Look at the Guidelines<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the \u201c2014 ASPEN Parenteral Nutrition Safety Consensus Recommendations,\u201d you should [<a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.butler.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?referer=&amp;httpsredir=1&amp;article=1000&amp;context=cophs_papers\">3<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/35537001\/#\">4<\/a>]:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Replace the tubing and filter every 24 hours for both all-in-one and 2-in-1 parenteral nutrition.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change the set and filter every 12 hours if intravenous fat is administered separately.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If intravenous fat is used for prolonged periods, divide the fat dose into two parts and use a new container and tubing every 12 hours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2016 Infusion Nurses Society (INS) recommends changing the administration set with each new parenteral nutrition container (or at least every 24 hours).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:&nbsp;<\/strong>These recommendations are for the general population. In CRBSI, bacteria originating at the catheter pass to your bloodstream.
