These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Abnormal uterus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thyroid disease<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diabetes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abnormalities in the mother\u2019s immune system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unusual blood clotting in the mother<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"IVIG_for_Infertility_When_It_May_Be_an_Option\"><\/span>IVIG for Infertility: When It May Be an Option<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IVIG may be an option if miscarriage is due to the body\u2019s abnormal immune response to the embryo.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a normal pregnancy, your immune system accepts the embryo (even though it is 50% foreign tissue).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, when your immune system fails to accept the embryo, miscarriages can occur. When this happens, your body will produce more white blood cells (specifically natural killer cells) that attack the embryo.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How IVIG works for infertility is not fully understood. Nonetheless, it is thought to reduce the risk of rejection by [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5395546\/\">3<\/a>]:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Neutralizing the antibodies that attack the embryo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reducing the number of natural killer cells<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restoring the balance of specific immune cells involved in immune regulation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"IVIG_for_Infertility_What_Is_the_Success_Rate\"><\/span>IVIG for Infertility: What Is the Success Rate?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to an extensive review, IVIG treatment was associated with a two-fold increase in live birth rate in women with repeated miscarriages and underlying immune diseases [<a href=\"https:\/\/aacijournal.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s13223-022-00660-8\">4<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In women with repeated implantation failure, IVIG may improve the implantation and pregnancy rate [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/19396368.2017.1390007\">5<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 2017 Cochrane review found higher pregnancy rates in IVIG-treated individuals (52%) than in untreated individuals (27%) [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cochranelibrary.com\/central\/doi\/10.1002\/central\/CN-01412108\/full\">6<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The success rate depends on a woman\u2019s underlying immune disorder and the timing of the IVIG infusion and ovulation. For instance, it might be best to administer IVIG infusion before conception in women with increased natural killer cells [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindawi.com\/journals\/jir\/2020\/6672865\/\">7<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Limitations_of_IVIG_for_Infertility\"><\/span>The Limitations of IVIG for Infertility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite promising results in numerous studies, IVIG is still an experimental therapy for infertility.
