It is available in several other brand names as well, the most common ones being <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/cuvitru\/\">Cuvitru<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/gammagard\/\">Gammagard<\/a>, GamaSTAN, <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/gammaked\/\">Gammaked<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/ivig\/\/gamunex-c-the-immune-supplement\/\">Gamunex-C<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/hizentra\/\">Hizentra<\/a>, Hyqvia, <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/octagam\/\">Octagram<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/privigen-medication\/\/\">Privigen<\/a>, among many others. <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/immune-globulin\/\">Immune globulin<\/a> is a blood product derivative. Treatment with immune globulin is typically referred to as <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/ivig\/ivig\/\/ivig\/\">IVIG (intravenous immune globulin)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div approved by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/\">Food and Drug Administration<\/a> (FDA) to treat cancer. Immune globulin products such as Panzyga may be used in certain patients with cancer only to manage immune-related complications, such as secondary hypogammaglobulinemia, and not as an anticancer treatment. Use in these settings is based on clinical judgment rather than FDA-approved oncologic indications. Immune globulin can be used for a wide variety of different conditions and diseases; however, the brand Panzyga is specifically used to:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treat immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treat <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/cidp\/what-is-cidp\/\">chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP)<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prevent <a href=\"https:\/\/ameripharmaspecialty.com\/other-health-conditions\/hypogammaglobulinemia\/\">hypogammaglobulinemia<\/a> (by stopping or lowering the harshness of other infections in people with a weak immune system)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Available Formulations<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panzyga is only available as a solution for intravenous infusion. It is available in many different sizes, including 10 ml, 25 ml, 50 ml, 100 ml, 200 ml, and 300 ml. It contains a 100 mg\/ml concentration.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Directions for Use&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Infusion duration varies depending on dose, patient tolerance, and clinical condition, and may range from several hours to longer durations in select patients. It should be administered in a separate infusion line from other medications. If a primary line is being used, flush with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rxlist.com\/normal-saline-drug.htm\">normal saline<\/a> (NS) or dextrose 5 % in water (D5W) prior to administration. Decrease dose, rate, or concentration of infusion in patients who may be at risk of kidney failure.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panzyga dose varies depending on the disease state it is being used for. Typically, if the initial 30 minutes of the infusion is well-tolerated, the rate can be increased every 15 to 30 minutes as needed up to a maximum rate. Decreasing the rate or stopping the infusion may help relieve some adverse effects (flushing, changes in pulse rate, or blood pressure). Check with your physician about the rate and dose as well as the maximum rate allowed.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Missed Dose<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This medicine needs to be administered on a fixed schedule. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you miss a dose, notify your doctor, home health caregiver, or treatment clinic.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Storage<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panzyga can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 36 months from the date of manufacture. Within this time, it may be stored for up to 12 months at room temperature. Once the medication has been removed from the refrigerator and left at room temperature, it must be used or discarded. Do not return back to the refrigerator. It is recommended to remove it from the refrigerator prior to infusion. Store away from direct sunlight.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_To_Avoid_While_Taking_Panzyga\"><\/span>What To Avoid While Taking Panzyga?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While taking Panzyga therapy, you must follow some precautions. Always tell your physician about any medications you are already taking. <\/span><b>Do not take any drug or medicine (even herbals, vitamins, or over-the-counter medications) without prior consent from your physician or pharmacist<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It could be potentially harmful to the fetus during pregnancy or to the infant while breastfeeding. It may be administered during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, but only if the potential maternal benefit outweighs the potential fetal risk. Consult with your physician if you think you may be pregnant or if you are breastfeeding.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Side_Effects\"><\/span>Side Effects<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As with any other medication, you may encounter side effects while taking Panzyga. A few things to remember are:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may not have all the side effects listed below. Many people may experience little to no side effects.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The severity of side effects may vary from person to person, so don&#8217;t compare your side effects with other people\u2019s experiences.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the side effects will improve when therapy is discontinued.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These side effects are easily manageable most of the time, either by readjusting the dose of Panzyga or using additional medications to treat the symptoms. Consult with your physician or pharmacist to explore available options.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do not hide any symptoms; if you feel any discomfort, do not hesitate to tell your physician or pharmacist about it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Note<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This is not a comprehensive list of all side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have questions.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the more serious side effects of Panzyga are listed below:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Allergic_ReactionHypersensitivity\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allergic Reaction\/Hypersensitivity<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There have been cases reported of patients with allergic reactions to the Panzyga injection or any of its components. In addition, worsening asthma has been reported with therapy in patients with a history of asthma, sinusitis, or allergies. Signs of an allergic reaction can include rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; tightness in the chest or throat;&nbsp; wheezing; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Immune globulin may not be recommended in patients with IgA deficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Aseptic_Meningitis_Syndrome_AMS\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aseptic Meningitis Syndrome (AMS)<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AMS has been reported with immune globulin administration. It is an illness characterized by serous inflammation of a certain area of the brain, most commonly causing headaches and fever. It more typically occurs with high doses or rapid infusion. AMS may appear within several hours to 2 days following treatment and usually resolves within several days after discontinuation. Female patients or patients with a migraine history may be at higher risk for AMS.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hematoma\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hematoma<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panzyga is administered intravenously and is <strong>not approved for subcutaneous use<\/strong>. Hematoma formation is uncommon with IV administration but may occur at the infusion site, particularly in patients with thrombocytopenia or bleeding disorders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hemolysis\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hemolysis<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hemolysis is the destruction or rupture of red blood cells. Intravenous immune globulin has been associated with hemolysis and can rarely lead to kidney impairment\/failure. The risk for hemolysis may be increased if receiving high doses either as a single administration or divided over several days. It may typically present as a very bad headache or dizziness, passing out, or a change in eyesight. Less commonly, however, it can potentially lead to a condition called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/conditions-and-diseases\/thrombosis\">thrombosis<\/a> if high blood pressure is left uncontrolled. In order to reduce risk, adequate hydration is highly recommended before infusion. Elevated blood pressure should be controlled with medications to treat high blood pressure.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Infusion-Related_Reactions\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Infusion-Related Reactions<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Risk for infusion-related reactions may be increased with initial treatment, when switching brands of immune globulin, or if treatment has been interrupted for more than 2 months. Infusion reactions may consist of fever and chills and may also include nausea, vomiting, pain, headache, dizziness, dyspnea, hypotension, rash, and weakness. If shortness of breath, swelling of the mouth or tongue, drop in blood pressure, or signs of infection occur, the infusion should be stopped immediately. If you experience a severe infusion reaction, the infusion can be re-attempted with appropriate premedications such as Tylenol or Benadryl.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pulmonary_Edema\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pulmonary Edema<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panzyga can commonly cause fluid retention (also known as edema) within the lungs. In addition to pulmonary edema, immune globulin infusions can potentially lead to severe respiratory distress, hypoxemia (decreased levels of oxygen in the blood), and fever.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kidney_DysfunctionFailure\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kidney Dysfunction\/Failure<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short-term kidney dysfunction can rarely occur. Risk is increased in elderly patients, patients with preexisting kidney disease, diabetics, dehydrated patients, and concurrent users of other medications that may cause kidney harm. For those with higher risk, the dose, rate of infusion, and concentration of solution should be minimized. The following includes what you can expect with Panzyga use:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood pressure should be regularly checked for cardiac monitoring.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frequent blood tests should be done to monitor labs, especially blood protein and sodium levels.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liver function should be monitored, especially in patients with preexisting liver complications.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panzyga <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may not be recommended in patients with severe liver impairment.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some immune globulin products may contain stabilizing agents that can affect liver function; monitoring is recommended in patients with preexisting liver disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some brands of immune globulin (like Panzyga) may contain sorbitol; do not use in patients with <a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/genetics\/condition\/hereditary-fructose-intolerance\/\">hereditary fructose intolerance<\/a> (HFI). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Symptoms of HFI include recurrent vomiting, abdominal pain, and lower blood sugar.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patients should be monitored for cardiac complications, especially thrombosis.<\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The risk for thrombosis is increased with advanced age, prolonged immobilization, history of thrombosis, use of estrogens, indwelling catheters, and hyperviscosity (thickening) of blood.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For patients with higher risk, it is recommended to infuse immune globulin at the minimum dose and infusion rate possible.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Immune globulin (pronounced [i MYUN GLOB yoo lin]) is also known by the brand name Panzyga.
