TPN infusion helps to provide daily nutrients when the body does not have a functioning gastrointestinal tract such as in some stages of ulcerative colitis or Crohn\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<h2>Taking TPN Safely<\/h2>\n<p>TPN is always stored in the refrigerator until ready for use. It should be removed from the refrigerator and brought to room temperature for 2 \u2013 3 hours before being infused into the vein. Use sterilized dressing to prevent infection and contamination. Check for signs of blockage and keep injection area sterilized.<\/p>\n<h2>How long does TPN take to administer?<\/h2>\n<p>TPN is usually used for 10 to 12 hours a day, five to seven times a week. Most TPN patients administer the infusion for 12 to 14 hours during the night so that they are free of administering during the day.
