Normally, these cells aggregate (stick together) during injury or cuts to seal the damaged blood vessels and limit excess blood loss.<\/p>\n<p>However, in ITP, the patient\u2019s body experiences trouble stopping bleeding due to low platelet counts, which eventually increases the risk of severe internal or external bleeds or bruising.<\/p>\n<p>Nplate is used to keep the platelet count at least at or above 50,000\/\u00b5L\u00a0to prevent bleeding episodes or bruises associated with ITP. The dose can then be adjusted according to the response to the treatment and platelet count (targeting to maintain platelet count at or above 50,000\/mm3) as necessary to reduce the risk of bleeding.<\/p>\n<p>Nplate should not be used to normalize platelet counts.<\/p>\n<h3>For Adults and Pediatrics With ITP<\/h3>\n<p>The initial dose of Nplate is calculated according to the actual body weight of an adult or pediatric patient. The initial dose is 1 mcg\/kg given once a week.<\/p>\n<p>After the initial dose, future doses are adjusted according to the platelet count. The weekly dose is adjusted with increments of 1 mcg\/kg\u00a0until the patient (adult\/pediatric) achieves a platelet count of 50,000\/mm3 or greater.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum weekly doses should not exceed 10 mcg\/kg.<\/p>\n<h3>For Adult and Pediatric Patients with Hematopoietic Syndrome of Acute Radiation Syndrome (HSARS)<\/h3>\n<p>Adult and pediatric patients, including neonates with HSARS, receive one dose of 10 mcg\/kg as a subcutaneous injection immediately after exposure to radiation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div  id=\"copay-side-effect-list-8370a3162b8500cd97dd20a7942fe23d\" style=\"\" class=\"copaySideEffectList\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<h2 class=\"title\">Nplate Side Effects<\/h2>\n\t\t<div class=\"content  sideEffectList\" id=\"sideEffectList\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.8rem;\">Like all medications, Nplate may cause some side effects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_inner vc_row-fluid\">\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>The most common side effects (affecting more than 1 in 10 patients) in adults with ITP include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Headache and dizziness<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Allergic reaction (swelling, itching, rashes)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Upper respiratory tract infections<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Insomnia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The most common side effects reported in children and adolescents with ITP include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Nose and throat infection (upper respiratory tract infections)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Diarrhea and abdominal pain<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Runny nose, cough, and fever<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Rash and bruising<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Mouth and throat pain<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Pyrexia<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Oropharyngeal pain<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Contusion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The less common or adverse side effects (affecting up to 1 in 100 patients) you may experience after taking Nplate include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Thrombotic\/thromboembolic complications due to high platelet levels<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Progression of MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Bone marrow failure due to reticulin fiber formation within the bone marrow<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Muscle tightness, muscle weakness<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Loss of response to Nplate<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">A condition called erythromelalgia (a rare condition that causes episodes of burning pain and redness in the feet and sometimes the hands, arms, legs, ears, and face)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are not all the possible side effects that might be caused by Nplate.
