What Is Trazimera and How Does It Work?

Trazimera is a medication with the generic name trastuzumab-qyyp. It is a biosimilar medication to trastuzumab and belongs to the class of medications known as monoclonal antibodies. Trastuzumab was first approved by the إدارة الغذاء والدواء on September 25, 1998, for the treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress the HER-2 protein and who have received one or more chemotherapy regimens for their metastatic disease. It was also approved to be used in combination with another chemotherapy medication called paclitaxel for the treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress HER-2 protein and who have not received chemotherapy for their metastatic disease. Trazimera was approved as a biosimilar to trastuzumab on March 11, 2019.

Trazimera is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the extracellular domain of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 protein (HER-2). By doing so, it triggers cell destruction of those cancerous cells that are expressing the HER-2 protein. This is known as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity, and it inhibits the rapid increase in the number of cells that overexpress HER-2 protein (cancerous cells).
